I was saddened to walk past the tiny Aux Dog Theatre during the pandemic & watch as props, seating & playbill stands were carried out. That was the last curtain it seemed; the end of an era-ish. (Not exactly: Aux Dog Theatre is now online...)
Meanwhile, there's an exciting new neighbor who's moved into that spot, which is already adding to the vibrancy of the neighborhood: The NM Black Cat Cultural & Community Center is in the former theatre space & the events are flowing...
I enjoy murals, so as the walls outside the new community center began to resemble a colorful menage of dancers & actors, I paid attention. A few days later I passed by to see men & women in costume greeting folks at the door, who were clearly dressed for a fun evening as they entered the busy community space. Another night it looked like a tango party...
Black Cat fits in well with it's neighbors, with Artisan Santa Fe (in ABQ) next door.
There's more though. Black Cat is supported by grants from the likes of the McCune Foundation & other, which helps it function as a community resource center too.
